Nechung Monastery hosts this special occasion of two Geshemas from Jamyang Choling Nunnery Institute. The historic event, that resulted after decades of training, was an evident result of how women are given equal opportunity in Tibetan culture in today’s world. For decades His Holiness The Dalai Lama and The Central Tibetan Administration, as well as the great abbots of the great learning centers inside Tibet and in exile have attended this urgent need for the nuns in Tibetan Buddhist world to show respect, care and concern, as well as enable these monastics to become another batch of new leaders in monasticism. Both Geshemas are part of group of nuns to be the first ever in Tibetan history to receive this prestigious degree, the highest academic title in Tibetan Buddhism.
